Hi! I’m Katie! I’m so glad you decided to visit my page. I am a mom of two from Denver, CO originally from Upstate NY. In addition to online coaching, I also am a piano teacher and have recently started offering online piano lessons in light of what is going on in the world right now. I have designed this website to be a “one stop shop” for resources of things that have helped me, so hopefully they can help you too! If this is the first time you are hearing about me and what I do, let me give you a little background about my story and why I’m so passionate about helping YOU with self care.
My health and fitness journey really started as an adult. I did not grow up playing sports. I was not an athlete. I had no clue how to properly fuel my body, and maybe you can relate to me on this, but I truly believed that I was “stuck” in this unhealthy, overweight, body of mine for the rest of my life. I pretended I was sick on the “physical fitness test” days at school. I was voted most musical in high school and focused all my energy on music. If you had told me back then I’d be where I am today, 41 year old mom of two helping people realize their health and mindset potential, I would’ve laughed in your face.
Until one day, it was summer of 2002 and I was standing there in the Old Navy dressing room shopping for new size 18 jeans for my bartending job at TGIFriday’s because my size 16’s were too small. I stood there sobbing wondering how I ended up like this. How did I let myself get to this point?
So I made the decision to change. I read books about healthy eating. I looked up exercise plans. I started getting outside and walking, and eventually eased my way into running. Denise Austin and Jane Fonda yoga/pilates videos were my jam. And when I was fired from the bartending job, my health and fitness is what kept my head in the right spot when I was looking for new work. And I worked and worked and worked on myself and my mindset. I decided on that day in that Old Navy dressing room that I would never wear those size 18 jeans. And I never did, because I lost 50 pounds and changed the trajectory of my life forever.
Once I lost the weight, my life changed. My confidence shifted. I started running. I realized that I was an athlete, I loved exercise, and I also loved to cook healthy meals! Because of this epiphany I had about my own life, I remember thinking “gosh, how many other women out there are thinking these same things I did?” Then, I decided to become a personal trainer. I worked at a small gym in Upstate NY as the only female trainer and helped facilitate rehab plans for women.
When my fiancée, now husband and I moved to Colorado in 2006, it was a huge change. Part of the reason we moved is because we knew people lived a healthier lifestyle (healthiest state in the US), and when we visited, we fell in love with the sunshine and the opportunities for outdoor activities! I was able to find a job at a local weight loss company within two weeks of us moving to town. I stayed with that company for eight years and had many roles. I worked from home all throughout my first pregnancy, and thought I could continue to do so, but realized quickly that I wanted more time with my little dude. So, I left that company and became a full time SAHM.
Then when my little guy was only 4 months old, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. AGAIN. This was not my plan, to say the least.
After Dorothy was born, the struggle started become REAL. I breastfed both my kids for a full year, so I basically felt like a cow. I was barely sleeping. I started hallucinating hearing things that weren’t there and there was absolutely no self care going on at all. It was full on SURVIVAL MODE. I know you stressed, overwhelmed mama’s feel me. When I felt like I was ready to start exercising again, it was really hard to get back into it. I didn’t have all the time in the world, I didn’t have any energy, and I didn’t have a plan. I was very inconsistent.
Somehow someone who had been incredibly passionate about health and fitness couldn’t even workout for 20 minutes, let alone train for a race or break a good sweat. I KNEW everything, but wasn’t doing it. Then I started watching my coach. She was posting on social media about online coaching and how she could still stay home with her little boy (who was the same age as mine), and help busy people with at home workouts! I loved at home workouts! I still was pulling out my Denise Austin videos and my P90X DVD’s I bought on Craigslist (once every three weeks). So, in May of 2017 I said…why not me?
Since that decision to become an online coach, my life has completely changed. Not only did I lose the baby weight I was struggling so much to get rid of, I have GAINED so much. I have connected with an amazing community of inspiring, like-minded people that are also on the same mission as me: to make the world a healthier place and change one life at a time. Exercise and eating healthy are not means to an end, they are my way of life. And because any major physical change must first be precipitated by a mindset change, that has evolved as well. I meditate now! I journal my gratitude and affirmations every morning. I have learned the true power in an intentional morning routine, and I LOVE helping other people that are struggling with this! The body achieves what the mind believes, so if you’re head isn’t in the right place, GF you are going to STRUGGLE.
